A LETTER FROM MY FRIEND…

You might be wondering why I had no posts for this much long time. Well, I’ll say that. I’m so happy now that I received a lot of feedback, both good and bad from your side. This is quite inspiring for some beginner blogger like me whose page rank is still stuck on ‘0’.

The delay for a new post was because of some decision I took. A friend of mine made me take that decision. Once while we were talking over many things, she came to share with me some unsaid experience with late Kamala Surayya (Kamala Das). At first I didn’t show any interest but when she continued saying about it, I began listening. After hearing the whole story I kept that in mind. Thought a lot about it again and again. For many days I didn’t talk to her about that. And at last one day I asked her to write about that experience for me. The very first answer from her side was “No!”. Then I took a decision and said her that only that will be my next post. Hours, Days and Months passed n nothing happened! Some days ago, One pretty morning (Prettier by her voice?!) she called me and asked “Rosh, have you stopped writing? Why no new posts in your blog?”. And I said “I have already told you na?, that the next post will only be about your meeting with Kamala. The word stays so.” I got a positive answer in the very next moment from the mouth of that idle idiot for the first time to my request (or probably my stubbornness?)

And days after…,Today, I got a mail. A mail from my friend. Or call it a mail from ‘X’. My most favourite reviewer ‘X’

I wrote this post a few days before. Many reasons kept me away from posting this, like the troubled Internet at home. Or one reason for all these happened this way might be for giving her a tribute exactly a year after she passed away by revealing some unsaid experience she had with my most favourite ‘X’. A tribute to

A letter from my friend…

Where do I start from? May be with a bone breaking blow on your face……… Rosh!!!!!!! How many times did I tell you I am too lazy to write?

Well, my heart was literally in my throat when I rang the door bell of her flat at Kochi. I knew she’d be expecting me. I had rung her up and told her I’d come. Just to see her, for real. She had tried to guess my age over the phone from my voice…. I told her she could see for herself and tell me.

I was enthralled when she opened the door herself. In crystal clear Malayalam, in a voice which reminds you of the softest of bell chimes she said “oh…..you are the girl who called me earlier? Come on in, come on in” (Rosh, i.e. Varoo, varoo)

There was a very sweet, definitely feminine fragrance in the drawing room. Krishna’s statue, books, all kept in order.

Without any preamble she said …… “You are so very young and so very pretty….” I was elated, flattered, my cheeks felt hot……” I just smiled at her. “Very few people can smile the way you do, dear” (Rosh, she said kutty). Oh!! I studied her amazing smile. Beautiful lips revealed beautiful teeth…..the sparkle in her eyes…. Such a beautiful woman!!! You could see her soul in her eyes…so open, so vulnerable…… yes vulnerable. I asked her whether I should call her Amma or Aami. She laughed….. I didn’t know laughter could be so sweet in its sound! Whatever you call, don’t call me Kamala Das…..well…… everyone calls me that. Not that I don’t like my name. She laughed again. Brief, sweet, laugh.

She asked about my family. Told me so much about her children, husband. I realized she loved her husband and kids very much. May be not as much as she loved her loneliness and her Krishna…….(that’s my musing ok?)

“From the way you talk, I know you write, don’t you?” When I answered negative, she scolded me for not using given gifts. That’s when she asked me whether I had learnt dance, on hearing my positive reply, she made me do a bit of Bharatnatyam. I tried my best to make her understand, how long it had been since I really tried out a full rendering…. All in vain. I did as best as I could. Lack of practice, I was soon out of breath, sweating…….. She made me sit right next to her. “Very talented….why didn’t you continue learning dance?” .The sweetest ever disapproval (again I didn’t know disapproval could be sweet) painted her voice.

She talked about Radha, Krishna………..yes true to her poetry she was so in love with Krishna, the perfect lover. As her critics say, bhakthi absent in her musings even now. But I felt she was moving closer to the perfect love of a soul to another soul from “love of the skin” (physical love, in her own words). She was pretty sure there was no woman who could not be in love with Krishna. When I said I didn’t know Krishna all that well, she laughed……really laughed, heartily. And said “….I am sure he knows you well enough and will find you one day and come to you. He can’t over look someone as beautiful as you…….”

She was equally sure, barring a few truly holy exceptions, there was no woman who was never attracted to another woman at some point in her life.

We talked, laughed for over 2 hours. Anyone else in her position would’ve suspected me to be from the press. But she trusted me and believed in what I said about myself. “Do you want to take a photo of us together?” she asked when I said my time was almost up, for reasons you know, Rosh, I said no. She hugged me tight when I got up to leave. I couldn’t help my tears. I had never come this close to beauty before and didn’t want to leave the perfect woman, yes perfect……the definition of a woman sans any pretenses. A woman who was woman enough to openly say she was a woman…….

Tears sparkled in her eyes too. Our meeting was to be my precious secret. I wouldn’t have told anyone. And now Rosh, you are posting it on for ALL to see!!! It’s ok… J

Hope this meets with your approval. Tell me deficits, I’ll try to rectify.. Bye.

The name of X isn’t important. The experience she had with that great woman is which matters…

And you have won the game of death!

I‘m back home after almost two months. Was busy last month in college with the usual boring lectures, nut cracking exams, festivals.... Certain news always has the power to attract us. No matter, in what situation and where we are, we will try to listen to it. I came across such a news piece today! It was about a nowadays media habit - A reality show! I listened more to it as we also organised a reality show in college as a part of technical fest.

The facts about the reality show aired by a French network called “Le Jeu de la Mort” or “Game of Death,” were shocking. Actually it was a psychiatric experiment faked as a competition. In order to win it, contestants had to push a button that delivered electrical shocks to a man on a chair. They could deliver a maximum of 460 volts on to the man. Motivated by the desire to win, 64 of the contestants (an overwhelming 80 percent) pushed the button and “killed” the man, no matter how hard he screamed, pled or cried. What the people on the show and the audience did not know was that the man was an actor, there was no electrical current in his chair and they had just been tested to see how low they’d scoop for a shot at fame and, presumably, a prize in cash. The man on the chair was a very good actor that he acted his maximum to show that he is in a 300+ volt shock! The fictitious game show had all the trappings of a real TV quiz show, including a beautiful and well-known hostess, and a raucous audience. A group of contestants posed questions to a man sitting inside a box in front of them in an electric chair. The hostess and a chanting audience urged the players — who had levers in front of them — to send jolts of electricity into the man in the box when he gave an incorrect answer. Even when the player screamed out in pain for them to stop, 80 percent of the contestants kept zapping him. In reality, the man in the electric chair was an actor who wasn’t really being shocked — but the players and the audience did not know that.

This experiment was done related to a basic approach put forward by American social psychologist Stanley Milgram in 1963. In order to investigate the cruelty in behaviour of Nazi guards, he took a sample population and did some game similar to this. He created a bogus authority which ordered volunteers to administer electric shocks of increasing severity to an unseen person who answered questions wrongly. Amazingly 60 % of the volunteers obeyed the instruction and were ready to do that. The truly shocking fact is that, the mob attracting factor- television- easily increased the number by 20% in less than 50 years! The show organisers even said that people will be ready even to kill for fame through television. I guess the time for primetime reality shows to murder people is not so far. This experiment rooted on Mr. Milgram’s experiment proved that television was somehow uniquely capable of brainwashing people into committing murder. The original experiment done 50 years ago gave somewhat similar but contextually different result. It suggested that the real problem was something deeply rooted in the human psyche: the incapacity of a large majority of people to resist authority or to refuse to follow a crowd or mob.

However this reality show paved light to some shocking as well as very important matter. If somebody says you to kill someone showing some fake papers and make it look like legally not punishable, 80% of you will be ready to do that. Shocking, Isn’t it?

Sorry India, from a Pakistani!- About an apology!

This one is after a quite long gap. One of my most favourite reviewers fed back me that i sounded like an orthodox leftist in my last post with some usual anti American dialogues. I have a word for that friend here. That was not about being left, it was about saying what a common man could feel. Well, I admit that I am shifting my views from right. Not from right to wrong! My left is not the usual left you see here in this nation. This word usage which came into existence at the time of French revolution has gained a lot of circumstantial meanings in this era. I had nothing to do with Obama. I just had a critical view about what happened. Here in my country criticism often is synonymous to leftism. More accurately, we can say reasonless criticism. A man once said that Change is the only thing without change. Strange but funny, his followers’ even hates change!

I am writing again after a long time. And hence I was confused a lot, how I should start with. But I have something interesting to talk about. Two months ago, while I was checking my face book, came across an ad of a blog. The ad was catchy saying “Sorry India for 26/11”. I wondered, anyone responsible for the act is not even regretting and then who the heck is apologising?! It was the time when, even Ajmal Kasab denied, he did that. Had no second thought and clicked the link.
The link opened gave me a very good impression. It was not a blog like mine, but with lots of hits I read the last post with the same caption of ad as its heading. It actually was an apology on the wake of a documentary done by National Geographic channel with collected data including tapped phone calls from Pakistani, giving instructions to the terrorists. After reading that, I went through his older posts too. There I saw a totally different man with strong anti –Indian views. Then I went through the comments he got. There were many and I started reading them one by one. The more I read, the more I was shocked.
There were comments backing India, Pakistan... Supporting the author, opposing him... I even found a very strange one saying “LeT is actually helping Islam to escape from the hands of Hindustanis. Why is the Pak military backing them only in moonlight? According to me, they should give open help to LeT”. Do any one dare to say that this is not strange? Also there was something in comments mentioning about the cruelty done by Indians to the Kashmiris!
But what really made me feel something in heart was that all these explanations were to justify lots of killings. How can you even justify that? I know, I am writing about this much late. But still, these are always relevant. Especially in this situation while democracy in Pakistan is degrading so fast. Bomb blasts are usual like Friday movies!

I also saw a report in famous Pak newspaper DAWN web site saying that “the Pranab Mukhergee” who called Pak president and US state secretary and “the Pak president” who called Indian Home Minister was a terrorist in Hyderabad jail. And they were planning for another India Pak war!

I still don't know why common man gets attracted towards terrorism! The movies has a great role here. Something called anti Pak terrorism is always inspired by Indian movies. For example movies like "A wednesday " could inspire youth a lot to do acts like that. The movie makers do intend goodwill, but sometimes what happens is above intentions and that is the worst case.

We are hearing a lot about terrorists of kerala now a days. Our state which we thought comparatively less vulnerable to terrorism is in the grip of terrorism, we have to doubt! A few inspirational words and a bag full of money is enough to make followers among teenagers. And this situation is exploited.

A new year has come. Let the 2010 be a prosperous year with no more tears like 26/11. We just can wish that world should never remember some incident just by the dates...

Happy time for Keralites; Nobel peace prize for Malayalee student Roshan

2010, Norway, Kottayam: Happy time for keralites and Indians as the Nobel peace prize for 2010 declared. Malayalee engineering student Roshan Thomas from Kottarakara won the prize for his prestigious works in establishing world peace! His famous dreams about world peace made him eligible for the most reputed award in world, Norwegian Nobel Committee spokesperson said. Reliable sources reported that he was dreaming about world peace even during the boring lectures of his class. His lecturers admitted that too. A report from his roommate that he sang ‘heal the world ‘ in bathroom was also considered as his eligibility for this prize, according to Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Don’t be afraid or laugh if you see news like the above stuff next year. It is really possible as the Norwegian Nobel Committee put forward a new scenario by awarding the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to U S President Barack Hussein Obama for his ‘prestigious works for world peace’. The prestigious works include,

1. Dreamt about nuclear weapon free world and sanctioned more amounts for increasing U S nuclear arms count.

2. Done 20+ one hour speeches about establishing world peace, fight against terrorism and human rights.

3. Was elected as the most powerful man on the globe, The U S President!

The last reason was definitely not the least reason. It is actually the only reason for awarding him with this great honor. If it was not, even I am eligible! This decision actually doesn’t make me embarrassed coz this is always expected from the west. There was a man who inspired the world for peace, who hopefully screamed ‘Hey Ram’ even while eating bullets from a freak’s gun. He got no Nobel prize, no other peace prize, but still he is the brand ambassador of world peace. Remembrance in hearts is the ultimate award.

Alfred Nobel might be crying from heaven (or hell? Nobel Prize is enough for him to get a PROMOTION from hell to heaven :-P)

Lets have a drink in the moon!

Well, this is after a long time I am posting something. A lot much things are happening around me, which urge me to write something about all of that, but lack of time is always holding me back from that.

The last few weeks were like a festival season for media. They celebrated with Paul murder case, SNC Lavalin and lot many things. These media always gives importance to what actually don't deserve, especially the malayalam medias. National medias are somewhat more sincere in their reporting. This may be because of their wide audiability.

In all these 'Much ado about nothing' too, I was so delighted to see the importance given to the Discovery of water content on lunar surface. This discovery was done by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Moon Mineralogy Mapper on the Indian Space Research Organization's Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft.

This discovery has build up a confidence for science world to think moon as an intermediate station for interplanetory voyages.

This discovery and success of Chandrayan 1 also gave inspiration for India to continue its Man on Moon project. The recent successful launch of Oceansat using PSLV was the 16th successful launch in a row. This marked the importance of India in the astronomical field as a reliable, precise satelite launcher nation. This is helping us to gain a lot of foriegn money needed for reserch as the fee.

Happy days

What should I say now? Happy days are ending... or happy days are restarting? I am really confused. My vacation is coming to an end. I couldn't say I am not happy in home. I also couldn't say I am crying over there in college with my friends. So I am here in a dilemma.

My guys yesterday messaged me to go Trivandrum with em to attend a function of our college management, CAPE. The key point was G Sudhakaran was inagurating the function. They told me that he will definitely give me something to feed my blog as he did earlier in kasarkod( mentioned in older posts).

But guess what? As usual , no time. I was totally busy even today. Had too many programs and missed the man with golden tongue. wat to do! Well we are having a byke trip tomorrow to some not yet fixed destination. Probably somewhere near thenmala.

Vacation was incidentful. Actually it was of sorrow. Many great men passed away. Kamala Das, Lohitadas, Michael Jackson.

Michael’s death was what touched me most. It was the result of loose bound life. Like a kite which lost it direction. For me he was the king of pop music. I loved his slow melody 'Heal the world' much more than his fast numbers like beat it. It had meaning, melody, and all midas touch.

One thing which made me laugh even in that grief was one thing done by most medias that day. They got comments on Michael Jackson, from Indian pop sensation, Usha Uthup... ha ha ha... I can't stop laughing. It was like asking Ramesh Pawar to rate Sachin Tendulkar. Was she even singing pop music? I am pretty doubted.... Or Is she a singer? hmmm... leave that. I am not blaming her. I am blaming the media who went to get her comment, like "Michael was fantastic...." Asking to some music maestros like ARR or Akon or Madonna is acceptable, but that was a terrible move.

Student suicides..

Today was a type of boring day for me. Nobody was home. So I was not allowed to go anywhere. S I had to sit here whole day. I spent the day with some movies and television. I saw two boring English movies, I don’t even remember their name. For two days I was seeing the Lord of the rings trilogy. Even all the three movies were longer than usual movies, they were worth watching. The last in the sequel, Lord of the rings- Return of the king, was the longest having a 4 hrs 30 min length. Still the 11 Academy awards winner and 8.5+ imdb rated film was nice to watch.

Ok lets talk about what I was supposed to. Today while I was watching TV I crossed over an interesting topic in NDTV. I moved into the channel again and started listening the discussion. It was a news report saying that 16,000 students committed suicide in India in the last three years. The report set fire to my thoughts. What may be the reason for these increasing rates of student suicides? Who is guilty for this? How can we stop this? I searched in web to collect news reports about student suicides. From the dats collected I found the following facts.

What are the reasons?

My very first search result on web showed some of the following reasons. How ever no reason can justify suicide. Students mainly choose death as their final choice because of these.

1.Bad results

Most of the suicide attempts by students are reported in the months of May and June. Most of such suicides during this month are because of bad result. Its also noticeable that girls are greater in numbers. This sort of suicide implies , the do or die situation faced by students in exams. So after a failure in exams, student will think what next and then he will embrace suicide.

2.Ragging

This criminal offence also had resulted in so many suicides. Students ragged cruelly by seniors are some time mentally destructed and they are then forced into suicide. In my opinion, such suicides must be filed as murders. There are many examples even in Kerala’s recent past for this. None of the prevailing laws are preventing this effectively.

3.Burden of studies and stress

A lot more stress is put on the shoulders of students by the Universities and teachers. The universities aim high standards and teachers aim better result. Students are the one who suffer in between this. Such a stress is put on them to work overtime loosing their rest and hence resulting in loss of mental balance. Thus the burden of books leads them either into drugs or suicide. It was a great news when 2 years ago, IIT Mumbai banned students from using internet after 11pm considering the greater number of suicides. The most prestigious technical university of world found out that their students were searching for porn and illegal items to get rid of the tension of studies. And it after all result a great mental stress in them. The stress produced on a student in these Grade Point Average is perfectly emphasized in Chethan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone. He was the one to say it, since he too suffered that a lot.

4.Assaults on children

These were not even a reason in the recent past. But the counts on these are fast increasing. Authorities such as women’s commission also need to pay urgent attention on this. Children at school are easily vulnerable to attacks now a day. It was great news when a 2^nd standard student was died in New Delhi as the teacher punished her for not doing homework. Sexual assaults against girls also had resulted in some of the recent suicides. Governmental and non governmental organizations need to care this.

5.Financial problems

This is also turning to be a great deal to consider. There was a reported suicide due to financial crisis last year too. The suicide of Rajani S Anand in 2003 was a great news while it was even used politically. Students may be lead to suicide due to financial reasons also.

6.Love failure

Last but not the least, Most number of suicides are due to this silly reason, unable to move on! Love failure are forcing students to some mental stress and then to suicide.

Who is guilty?

This is a big question to be answered yet. Many are guilty here.

1.Student himself!

Understanding value of own life is much important in life. Those who don’t appreciate this precious human life has no right to live.

2.Parents

They are also answerable. Most suicides result from the communication gap developed between students and parents. If they were able to share their feelings with their parents even some of these could have been avoided.

3.Teachers

One should teach with heart.

4.Friends

I don’t actually mean it. It just mean that lack of a friend who could understand their feelings may result in his suicide.

5.The society

Society’s view towards a failed student is like looking at trash. Such things also could hurt little minds.

6.The Government and System

Like in every cases I am here putting the government also in guilty list, because they are. Care should be taken while implementing important reforms

How can we stop this?

The biggest question is “How the hell could we stop this?” There are many ways. They all must be implemented.

1.Proper assessment of syllabus burden every year

Ther must be a commission to asses and study the maximum burden to be applied on a student. Definitely, there must be no politician in that and no pseudo budhijeevi too.

2.Give counseling to students timely

They should be taught the value of life and never supposed to forget.

3.Measures against ragging and other criminal offence.

Strong steps must be taken for above

4.Awareness programs

Well... this would work if done by a good psychiatrist.

Let us hope for a good future.

Kamala Das – Poetry of love

This article is a tribute to The famous Indian writer Kamala Suraiyya (formerly known as Kamala Das), who is also known as Madhavikutty in the Malayalam literature, who passed away in Pune at the age of 75. She was buried in Palayam Juma Masjid as per her wish. Kamala Suraiyya wrote poems in English and is famous for her stories in Malayalam with the pen name Madhavikutty. She was nominated for the Nobel prize for literature in 1984.
Madhavikutty, because of her open minded writing, was mistaken as a porn writer. Perhaps she might me be the most mistaken writer of our era. As per known from some sources Kamala fled out of karala to pune in her last days because of some threats and abuse from some unknown phone calls. Kamala was the poet of love. She never hesitated to say truth through her writings loudly. Hence she was a proclaimed enemy of Malayalee rationalists. Bieth place spitted on her face when she was accepted by readers all over the world. Madhavikutty was obviously a prey of Malayalee’s fake morality concepts. She tried to break them all off.
Ente Katha must be the most widely read autobiography in Kerala for it’s references to the experience of love and lust. Madhavikutty was true to herself in writing that book. Unlike most of the so-called social/cultural/literary icons, she did not try to glorify herself in her autobiography. She was honest and wrote what she experienced and felt. She did not hide her weaknesses along with her strengths in her book. With Ente Katha and by showing herself open through her writings, she poked at the Malayali community (or for that matter, the conservative Indian society) and laughed at their pseudo-morality. And her writings about love and lust brought her so much criticism from the people.
She also made a news topic when she changed her faith to Islam. There were people who opposed and supported her on this decision. That was the first time I felt bad impression on Kamala. I couldn’t consider Krishna Radha pranaya bhaktha Kamala as an islam. I thought she did it just for publicity. But later my mind agreed with her decision, since I thought her motive was to understand almighty totally.But later on she said that her conversion to Islam was because of a Muslim man who promised to marry her but decieved her later. This man was said to be a young and famous Islamic scholar from Kerala. People had their eye-brows raised. Both Hindu and Muslim extremists were enraged. They blamed the love of old woman. But Madhavikutty showed love has no age.
Kamala was the poet of love. Her poems were all about love.

Krishna, I am melting,

“If love is a flower, lust is its fragrance. Without love, where is lust and without lust, can life be created?” Kamala Suraiyya quotes Jayadeva’s Gita Govindam. “I think of Radha and Krishna when I think of love. Life is all about various dimensions of love.”

The peudo moral malayalees always haunted her. They threatened her while she was awarded Ezhuthachan award for her outstanding works. Above all, what I love the most in her is that she never called her Feminist. However she commented for rights of women and children.
For me Kamala was the word of love..

A dog, a bird and some facts...

Here I want to go through a recent row went over between the eminent personalities of kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthananthan and the great orator and former sanskrit university Vice Chancellor Shri Sukumar Azhikode.

These twoeminent personalities were barking over the media for somedays regarding nothing. Shri Sukumar Azhikode , who claims himself as cultural leader is behaving cultureless now a days. He was one of my favorite orators since i hear him first in a function nearby, about 6 years ago. As time and age passed he gained an idol of an idiot in my mind. There is a thought in kerala that 'cultural leaders' can say opinion on any thing and everything they want. Because of the 'cultural leader title', Balachandran chullikadu also went out of my favorit list.

Lets come into the matter. The day after election results, chief minister faced the media with a smile on his face. Everybody knows that he was happy with the result since it was a buttt kick for pinarayi. Azhikodu has nothing to do with it. Still he commented.

"It's the laughter of betrayal. One should care not to excrete in where he live"

CM replied in an yet rude way!

" My culture is not allowing me to answer Azhikodu. He called me a dog"

Azhikodu later justified himself.

" I didn't call him a dog. It was a famous literal quote meaning bird"

This should be stopped by this, but Azhikodu banged again claiming that he was called by VS. VS denied it atonce. Then Azhikodu began to say that the problems will end onkly if VS calls him.

This stand came out from such a great man was obviously idotic. This reminded me some old saying that one shouldn't talk much after 60s. Any way the behaviour of this cultural leader was a great shame to cultural Kerala

Great movie!

Talking too much about politics is always boring. Though an interesting subject , most people are not actually interested in discussing it. May be because of the possibility of sure arguments. Well so I’m now going to change the subject considering the ‘public interest’.. ha ha

So what may be the topic everybody would like? There are many, but I’m here choosing Movies. Eventhough I’m a movie freak I haven’t posted any movie reviews yet in any of my old blogposts. But from many days before I had something in my mind to write about the most touching movie I have ever seen- The Shawshank Redemption

Review on 'The Shawshank Redemption'

I would like to call this movie a ‘u must see movie’ since it really is so. The movie was actually based on a book by Stephen King. I haven’t read that book yet, but I would like to, in the very next chance I get. As far as I know from the resources available for me I got the following facts.

Different Seasons is a collection of novellas by Stephen King. The book contains four stories: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, The Body, and The Breathing Method. Each story is given a subtitle, one for each season of the year. Three movies, The Shawshank Redemption (based on Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption), Apt Pupil, and Stand By Me (based on The Body), were made based on the stories from this book. Also now I want to see the other movies too.

The book was Subtitled 'Hope Springs Eternal'. The story actually is the story of hope.This is actually the story of fictitious Shawshank prison in Maine, USA. The story is narrated by Red, a convicted murderer serving a life sentence at Shawshank. The main character is Andy Dufresne. Andy is a soft-spoken banker, quite different to the other inmates. Like most of the inmates, he claims to be innocent..

The movie starts with stressed Andy drinking and checking his revolver for bullets. He was about to murder his wife who cheated him. Then it pans to his trial accusing him for the murder of his wife. Andy was innocent, but he got two back to back life sentences on the basis of situational proofs. Red was his Co- prisonor in the Shawshank prison. He was the secret supplier of stuffs to prisoners. Andy wanted a Rita Hayworth poster and Red got it to him. In the course of time they becomes great friends and Andy becomes the favorite of the prison officials who earn a lot in illegal ways by helping them to whitish that money by creating an unexisting man. Andy had strong hope in his mind all this time that he could escape from the prison one day. The movie also shows the suicide of a prisoner when he was rehabilitated. That was really the opening up to the misery of long term prisoners. When they are released there is none to receive them and they are pushed out into lonliness of rehabilitation. Some at good age will go back to their old job of killing and other helpless will marry death by commiting suicide some mental sickness. When Brooks suicides , he carves his name on the door top.

When Red supplies Andy a shapping hammer, he was thinking that it would take 600 years to tunnel under the walls with one of that. But it didn’t take 600 years for Andy to do that , he was able to do it in less than 20 years! Tommy Williams was a character introduced in the middle of the story. From his words Andy was able to prove his innocence. But the jail officials rejected his plea for that fearing their secrets will go out, and so they killed Tommy Williams. After that Andy escapes from the prison. He was tunneling behind the Rita Hayworth poster for 19 long years! That’s the real hope of innocence. By the time time he escaped he stole the dress and papers also required to show him as the fake man, whose account in which the jail officials put all their earnings in. The story then turns into a happy ending as the officials are all caught. Red was approved his release. Red is rehabilitated into the same room where Brooks was. Red also carves his name, but doesn’t suicide. He searches for Andy, finds him, and the story ends….

The greatest thing touched me in the story was Brooks, who commited suicde. Also the inner feelings of Andy who was in there not even doing any crime, was perfectly picturised by the director.

1. Shawshank Redemption won no Academy awards! Unfortunately no. It was however, nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor (Morgan Freeman).

2. Stephen King sold the rights of his story for just $1 dollar for it to be made into a movie.

3. The actual movie is a bit different from the screen play since screenplay was written before shooting and by the time of shooting numerous changes was made to it.

I donno why I am an Orkut addict. I cant live even a single day without checking my scraps. Today also I logged into it. On seeing a scrap fropm my friend Linjo that he has commented on my blog I wanted to check that. First I thought it will be his comedy comments just to kid me. Still I checked by blog. There was 2 new comments on the post 'Some thing in the light of election results'. I felt interested in that comments and started reading. His comments were substantial and were with precise views on Kerala politics. I read out it all and started to reply it as a comment. Then i suddenly thought that a comment is not enough. I suddenly started writing this post as a reply to Linjo's comments on that post.

The brainless Budhijeevis- I really want to agree with that adjective. It is obviously the truth. Having big beard and moustache is not the sign of having something in head. The leftists prove that day by day.

The honourable education minister who helped us to achieve great victory in SSLC exams by his great exam reforms is also a reason for this failure. How he became this education minister yaar? Is an MA in his name a qualification for becoming an education minister? Don't that post require some little bit of brain? A good trash to be seated in Mundasseri's seat..! Great! 69% to 95+ percent in just one year... great reforms. Those who don't even know how to write their name properly are getting 80+% What a pity! Also this guy has another problem. When ever the entrance exam time comes he will start tio fight with the christian managements. Not even moves till the time for admission comes. He want the christian management colleges to teach pupil with 6000 bucks where their expenditure per head is more than 25000. Knowing that its impossible to get a positive verdict from court. These all resulted in their drastic failure.. ugly educational reforms. Obviously the hate of majority Christian community is the main reason for their failure.

Linjo, I think you like V S Achuthananthan. Most guys in Kerala thinks that VS is Mr clean like A K Antony. This VS can never be compared to someone who is respected like our defence minister A K Antony. V S is not really Mr clean. He is nepotic in his many action. Guys who are with him get more favours. Example: K Suresh Kumar. He helped him to get some secret reports when he was opposition leader and so he is one among his favorite, not because he is good in his job. Also it is heard that VS had tried to do impossible favours to his son Arunkumar. He is not even possible to coordinate his own ministers. One who could never even be comparable to Achuthamenon, Antony or Ommen chandy or even to EK Nayanar

These guys really thought kerala is Gujarat saying christian, hindu and muslim. they really wanted to group people.

Some thing on the light of election results..

I am writing this in the light of the new Lok sabha election results. The Indian National congress almost threw out the communist party out of Kerala’s political map. The Marxist party is at their all time worst situation winning only four out of 20. Many of the great political observers and cultural leaders observe this failure as an unexpected one. But for me this is obviously the result I expected and wanted. Not only me the new voters of my age, the youth really wanted to threw out idiots with age 90+ and thoughts 150+ years ago.

The fall of communist party is obviously because of their antique thoughts. Whenever whatever good things are introduced they used to find black hands of CIA and America behind it. Even though America is our friend nation the left used to talk as if we are in a war situation with them. The one thing we had to care is that we are much friendlier with America than with the left’s role model nation China. China is obviously our enemy from the late 1960s. Even though so, the left used to support China even during the Indo- China war. That was a surely non- patriotic act.These communist guys may even support the Maoist guys who are doin much harm to our nation in the northern states.

They did all these circus to gain support of the muslim minority. They had a wrong thought in their mind that when you tell something against American imperialism and Israel attacks with out considering the facts, the muslims are gonna vote for them. But what the youth really wanted was not the long talks on International facts, some silly internal development programs. And not debates on caste religion and Ramakshethra and communalism. They really wanted some one to bring up their nation to the stage of world. They wanted someone who is really educated like Mr Manmohan Singh, Not someone like Vajpayee who talked in Hindi even in The United Nations Assembly, And obviously not someone like V S Achuthananthan who cant even spell his name correctly.

So the failure of some parties opbviously because of their failure in understanding what the new youth needs. Youth like me never found nuclear deal as selling of nations pride to American imperialism. Let me say something most guys wont like to say , still it’s the truth. Communism is an idea which had an expiry date well before 1980s. It’s such an expired idiotic idea which could do nothing good in this era of Global village. Keeping blind hate on someone is really ridiculous in this century.

Let me say something about today’s Communist party. Its basically a group of old men sitting together saying they are still youth. They cant even chew a chewing gum. All those real youths in the party are some students who have no mind and way of thinking of their own. They are some really freaky guys who love violence and they think that communism means violence. Those communists don’t even know who these Carl Marx and Frederick Engels are. Russo and Montesquieu are unknown to them. Voltaire is a new name for them. Their heroes are Lenin and Fidel Castro, the real Autocrats.

Pressure on students...

Inspiration for me to think a bit and write this post is my sister. Thanks to her. I will come to the topic in some time...

Exams ended. CUSAT exams are always a hard nut to crack. As usual it was the same, this year too. Any way I managed to write them well except 2 really hard balls.! Im having the first long vacation since I joined engineering. Therefore I waited for the last day of exam like a pregnant woman waiting for the little legs. At last the day came. The next day we had a trip to Thrissur for a marriage. The journey was really tiring. No space to sit anywhere in the train. Enjoyed there one day and came back.

After coming back home, I felt really bored. Decided to do something for a change. What could make a noticable change in me? Got an idea.. So I did this..

Then only I remembered that ' Its vacation yaar. Nobody is here to see your new look'. Then I got a new idea, Lets take some fotos n upload it over net to show all online frnds.. I can't take my photograph na? Thats why I went to my sister and asked for her help. Opening her room I was shocked.!

She was studying! I asked her to help me taking some photos. Reply.. " I have much to study. You better go n ask someone else". At last mom took the fotographs. Still the point is my sister's those words inspired me to think a lil bit about learning and syudying habits which im gonna write below this.

Such a reply from her side shocked me just because I had never seen her that much dedicated to studies before. Im sure that she is having much pressure on her. She is in 10th. In kerala we consider that class to be the turning point of life and give much unwanted importance. All may nbot agree with the view Im gonna say now [ especially the feminists].

Boys are always 'dont care' minded to this sort of pressure. But in case of girls they get tensed looses sleep and begins to study all the time. [ Exceptions are always allowed].

Its clear that when a man like M A Baby is the Education minister, there is not even a far chance for someone to fail, not even one who dont know how to write his name properly without spelling mistakes.! And after everything he will call a press conference and will say that the increased pass percent is because of the improved educational facilities done by our government... How pathetic!!

From this Its clear that the exam is not the only thing making the students tensed. I took some time and checked all possibilities. Finally found the following reasons too

1. Pressure from tuition centres for a better result
2. Pressure from parents
3. Thinking like "This is the toughest turning point of life" while it is not even a
significant node of life

Tuition centres pressure small children by starting classes even in the vacation time. Giving them no time for leasure in the hot environment. This make them really depressive.

Pressure from parents is the main thing to be avoided. It is the one thing that may hurt one deeply. Some parents use to compare their son or daughter with some others. It is actually underestimating. Like i said earlier in one of my old posts comparison implies u r under estimated. Even in my engineering class some of my friends are suffering from this. Their parents use to check the result of whole class with theirs. This may be a really fucking situation for that student. So parents must try to avoid givin extra pressure on their boy or gal.

The 10th is not even a node of life. It is nothing. Dont ever think that when it is gone u r lost. I who had an aggregate of 95% got no favour from that huge result other than getting an admission for +2. S this is not the end of life. Its just a step. If u slip, then u can jump again in a second try. So dont try to give up tensed

Mistakes..!

A quite fucking day with much ado... That was today for me..Bunked classes till noon.. simply sat there in hostel reading Chethan Bhagat's 'Three Mistakes of my Life'. 7 chaps are over, will continue workin over it today after reaching hostel..

Thanks to sombody who said toungue is the mightiest weapon... I remember the active character Ryan of Five point someone, who used to get hari n alok into trroubles usually..

Wow fuckin interesting tat im a Chetan Bhagat fan now.. I like his style of writing.. A flowing mode with some needed pace, Everybody will like to read him if they do once.. Some unbelievable things are always there in his stories, But if u can adjust with the goddamn blunders of Rajnikanth movies , you are in paradise now...

Movin through Three mistakes too i feel the same... For the first time after Basheer, Im a fan of a writer...He is a really interesting man. I first read Basheer when i was in 4th. Balyakalasakhi had many points in it that a kid couldnt understand, still it attracted me and thus i became his fan.

A little about social service today..

Hey,
After a long time im back to write a bit. Interestingly im gonna write a bit about social service today. You might think what the fuck is my reputation to say that. u r right, but i did a bit of soccial service today, as a National Service Scheme activist of my college today..

Today we went The Kidangoor Ayurvedic Govt Hospital and had a cleaning program there. All other guys n gals our class used to joke at me like we r goin to nss programs just to have a 50 bucks worth biriyani. Today i had a word against them. I was able to say them proudly that we did a social service today.

To say every thing frankly, we had a great lunch after that , chicken biriyani and a bottle full soft drink for everyone. We took some fotos of cleaning too, so that we could bboast at our frnds after coming back to college n hostel. I will upload it here later , i cant do it now because im now in from college and fotos are in my fone and fones are banned in college. Breaking laws now na??

After this much social service today, when i came back, there was no classes after noon. Even if there was , i had no intention in attending that. When i got into class gals were asking that where have i been for days, not attending the classes. What they said was a truth. I was cutting classes for two weeks under many excuses.. union... youth festival... nss... tech fests... Some of them adviced me too that this will cause me to loose a lot of internal marks.. but there is nothing to fear yaaron.. i have duty leaves for all that..

After these all i came here in lab to browse a bit and remembered that my blog is in the dead state after the volvo visit. So i wrote all these.

Yesterday in hostel we had a small talk about famous fotos of all times.. While i was browsing it came into my mind and i decided to browse for that. got some thing too.

VOLVO HITTING THE QUEEN OF ARABIAN SEA

It was a nice experience in the volvo ocean race village...

We three went there, Me ,Nicky and Jyothish...I stayed with Nicky yeaterday in his home and went eranakulam today morning...Jyothish joined us from kaloor.

There was a tight security in the light of Mumbai terrorist attack.The CRPF men where all over there in the wellington island with machine guns full of 0.9 mm ammunitions.It was my first experience in having such a closer look to machine guns pointing towards my head.No baggages where allowed to the race villa.So i have to pick my two cell phones in hand and fold the bag into my pockets.Nicky put,the 10 dvds i wrote from his house, in his pocket.As approaching the first metal detector,I got scared of the metal locket of a cross in my pocket.Fearing that it will cause the metal detector beep,I threw it away.We passed through the metal detector one by one, me first.Then a CRPF personal came.He checked us and allowed us to get in.
The big race villa came visible to us. We saw the yacht of Delta Loyd first. All other yachts were near that. According to me the best graphics was on the yacht of puma, the world famous sports brand. It had red colour with big black puma emblem on its sails. To move on to the yacht area we had to cross another security arrangement. This time i was so happy to see two beautiful security officials. They were so cute really..! As i moved in through the metal detector looking at them, suddenly it began to beep and i got scared.One man holding 7.62 SLR and pointing it towards me came to me and checked me. The same happened whe the other two got in too. We took some photographs of the yachts and moved to the race villa.
Numerous foriegn hot chicks were roaming all over there. I was forced to stare some of them as they were really beautiful. The native chicks who came there too were not too bad. But staring them will cause some adverse effects on my health. So i avoided them and moved on to foriegners.
Only the ERIKSON team was staying inside the race villa. I donno where the other teams stayed. We then moved to the different stalls set up in the villa.
First of them was PUMA's showroom which was a container modified into a shop. There were some accessories. The cheapest of them was a hand band worth Rs80/-. T-Shirts ranged above 3000 bucks. So we didnt like to stay there any more and came out.
Next was the stall of the race sponserers VOLVO. That was a great experience. At the entrance there was a luxury car and a small ,what we call- JCB. Inside there was so many volvo vehicles and prototypes and most interestingly very hot hot volvo officials. I talked with some of them and made friendship- short term friendship- Which is long only till im in the stall!.
There was one man, a volvo official standing there with no one to talk. I walked towards him and talked, introduced myself. His name was JOAN ERIKSSON. He made it clear again by pointing on his chest board and said that he has nothing to do with the phone company, laughing. Seeing his name i asked him whether he is a fan of the team ERIKSSON.
He said
"Of course , Im a fan of the team Erikson.Especially the ERIKSON 3. That team is in my heart.The whole crew of that yacht is from scandinavia. Im also from there, Spain.The captain of that team is from Spain. So i luv that team.
I know that ERIKSON 4 is probably the best team. But still 3 is in my heart"

After spending with him some more time we took some photographs with him and went out..

We then got onto the volvo ocean race dome to see a show about the volvo ocean race i videographed it.
Then we went for a small ride. A small cab which made us feel just like we are in the ocean race yacht.Water was sprayed on us to make us feel so... That was also shooted.

We then moved out of the villa. Boarded a bus and came back to hostel
